Genshin Impact is six years old, and the question is no longer “is it good” but “does starting now still make sense?”. The answer is yes, with caveats.
Exploration nobody has matched
No other mobile game gives you this much freedom. You can climb cliffs, glide off peaks and find chests in places the map never marks. Every region has a strong identity — Sumeru remains my favourite for its forest design and soundtrack.
Combat and teams
Elemental reactions are still the differentiator. Reaction teams (Hydro + Pyro, Electro + Dendro) outdamage stacked five-stars. New players should build one core team instead of spreading resources.
Grind and monetisation
Here is the problem. Artifact farming is pure RNG, and one domain can be repeated hundreds of times without a usable drop. Character gacha has a 90-pull pity — roughly Rp 2.5 million for a guaranteed five-star if you buy crystals. The good news: the entire story is clearable with free characters.
Performance
32 GB is a real problem on 128 GB phones. Mid-range devices hold 30 fps at low settings, but cross-region loading is slow. PC or PS5 is still the best experience.
Verdict
With 2-3 hours a week and a love of exploration, Genshin is still worth it. If you want to be strong fast without grinding, look elsewhere. 8.6/10.
